Debbie Green was a 7 year old girl from Benwood,
WV. She was like every other little girl…she loved going to school, cheerleading,
and playing with her friends. Debbie was loved by all who knew her. She
enjoyed life to the fullest. In 1970, Debbie was diagnosed with leukemia.
For two long years, she battled the disease with courage and determination.
On February 10, 1972, friends from all over the Ohio Valley put on a benefit
show for her, calling it “Debbie Green Day”, helping her during
her difficult time.This year’s race will be timed by the

Runner's High using the championchip system. On race day, runners and walkers will be issued a rental computer chip, which is attached to the shoelace and worn throughout the race. Special mats at the finish line will record a finished time for each chip. Make sure you get the right chip assigned to you. All chips MUST be returned at the finish line or the participant will be assessed a non-refundable, unreturnable chip replacement fee of $35. |
This year, we are the Official 5K National Championship for the Road Runners Club of America.
Proceeds
of this event will benefit one local recipients who suffer from Leukemia. Recipients will be announced immediately following the race. Race location is at Wheeling's Heritage Port. Start time is 7:00 pm SHARP on Saturday, August 7. The course is USATF Cer tified #WV-03027-RT, run throughout the city streets. |
